The vehicle was originally built for competitive use in vintage events, this well executed special boasts a very desirable specification. Reg. No. SV 7548, Chassis No: 10230, Engine No: 9805.
Three years ago the owner (who was an active member of the Lea Francis owners club) located a 1927 Lea Francis 12/40 Type 'M' rolling chassis complete with all its running gear that had lain disused but carefully stored for many years. His find had two great advantages, firstly, the type 'M' 12/40 chassis was one of the lightest in its series. and secondly, it was still fitted with its original 1496cc Meadows 4ED twin port engine. One of the most coveted small engines of the vintage period it retained its twin Solex carburettors and a Scintilla magneto. A comprehensive professional refurbishment was begun soon afterwards. The tweaked four cylinder unit was moved further back in the chassis giving better weight distribution and the potential to fit a super charger to it at a later date. A consideration from the very start as provision was made during the engine rebuild to run a blower. Also to this end, the coolant system has been upgraded following tuned 'Frazer Nash' practice with an additional feed to the back on the cylinder head etc. The four speed manual gearbox with its right hand gate and the efficient rod operated drum brakes have not been altered.
Finished in blue, the aluminium bob-tailed body is nicely proportioned. Trimmed unmarked red leather, the interior features staggered seating and a prominent starter button. Indicative of its dual role, this Lea Francis is equipped with discreet trafficators and powerful headlamps.
A notable and desirable upgrade he undertook was to replace the standard M type axle and propshaft with an original P-Type axle and propshaft these being known to be more robust (the original M –Type axle and propshaft come with the car). There is a whole raft of documentations; invoices and manual that accompanying the car including an FIVA identity card. It also comes with rally timers and a stopwatch attached to the dashboard and some useful tools and spares. Complete with UK re-import documentation, V5 and original registration number with all EU taxes paid. Offered for sale with V5 registration document. Ready for Racing touring or Rallying
